Affordable Teacher Outfits – What I’d wear in the classroom
One cure for the “Back to School Scaries” is all of the cute new early fall work attire!! The subtle autumnal color palettes, houndstooth, brown leather flats, ahhh!
I taught music for 10 years before changing careers, but a part of me will always be a teacher! The way I dress, schedule my work from home days and problem solve… always a teacher.
I will forever be grateful for my own time in the classroom and will always have the highest respect for teachers in today’s classroom.
You all deserve the world!
Affordable Teacher Outfits – What I’d wear in the classroom
The 5 most important factors when buying outfits for the classroom are:
- Affordability – Summers without a paycheck were rough! Affordability is always key.
- Function – Making sure all pieces can be worn multiple ways professionally (bonus points for weekend outfits!) Oh, and machine washable!
- Comfort – Crawling around on the floor during Kindergarten Music was a daily occurrence for me. Nordstrom silk wasn’t it, bro.
- Cuteness – It matters. When my outfit looked cute, I just felt happier. It’s science.
- Quality – Affordability and quality sometimes do not vibe with each other, but there were just some things I couldn’t go cheap on! Jeans and shoes mainly.
Teacher Outfit Ideas – Blazer, easy dress & comfy flats
This was my go-to style before the weather cooled down! A dress, blazer/cardigan and cute yet comfy shoes. I LOVE this color palette for early fall.
Pro-tip: I ALWAYS wore bike shorts under every dress. Not only did it provide me with a sense of security, but it was just more comfortable while walking around all day. I still wear bike shorts under every dress to this day! My favorites are these bike shorts in the color “oat”. The color doesn’t show through lighter colored dresses and the fabric is smoothening and sweat wicking (a must have in Az!)
I actually own these red slingback flats and they are some of the most comfortable pointed toe flats I’ve tried in a long time. The red pairs well with so many outfits! Denim, black, grey, brown plaids, chambray… it’s a staple shoe imo!

Capsule Wardrobe for Teachers – Monochromatic pieces for multiple outfits
I love buying pieces that can be worn multiple ways throughout the year! Midi skirts were my go-to. They pair wonderfully with sweaters, graphic t-shirts and blazers. I own a few of these skirts in various colors and they are amazing quality!
This outfit would also look cute with white sneakers if your dress code is more casual!

Teacher Outfit Ideas – the most comfortable work pants!
These pants though! If you were to wear one pair of work pants the whole school year, let it be these pants! They feel like sweatpants with the stretchy waist, but they look professional! SO comfortable.
I always kept a cardigan on my desk chair. Arizona summer typically means freezing indoor situations. When my classroom’s a/c was actually working properly, it only knew how to freeze us all!
