Modern Boho Dining Room – on a budget!

Recently updated on January 8th, 2021

Happy Saturday, everyone!

I have a fun dining room reveal to share with you all! It is nothing crazy or fancy, but it has made all the difference in my tiny little home.

I purchased my townhouse back in 2015 and boy was my “style” different back then lol!  I just travelled to Scotland and I had this brilliant idea to make my townhome feel like an old fashion Scottish drawing room. In Phoenix, Arizona.

Yup… I painted the walls dark colors, all of my curtains were metallic gold and I had cupboards filled with teacups suited for royalty (purchased at Ross of course…) You can say I was living my best Celtic Princess life.

My Dining Room BEFORE

I must say, I was obsessed with it all at first. It was so much fun being creative, but the dark and dreary color palette got old quickly. No regrets! (except the dark walls…)  Slowly, but surely I brought the neutral light back into my home haha!

Paint Color

I chose the color “Silver Satin” by Benjamin Moore. It has so much character for being an off-white/grey. At times it looks like the perfect creamy white, but sometimes it takes on a creamy pale grey vibe that I love too. Not to mention it makes my oak table and cabinets look stunning! (I never thought I would say oak is stunning… Oak is coming back, y’all!)

My trim is “Super White” by Benjamin Moore. Don’t let the name fool you. It is not a stark white at all! It is gorgeous, crisp and clean. It really made my home feel brand new!

Speaking of trim… I first painted my trim “Simply White” by Benjamin Moore. It was the go-to trim color according to Pinterest, but it looked terrible in my home. The color was pretty, but it honestly made my trim/doors look dirty. I waited a week and repainted everything “Super White”. ::crazy eyes::

Paint Savings tip: You can bring almost any color to Lowes or Home Depot and they can create it for you! I fell in love with Benjamin Moore’s “Silver Satin”, but did not want to pay the price of BM paint. I just told Lowes that I wanted Benjamin Moore’s Silver Satin OC-26 and they were able to find the color recipe in their computer system. 🙂

Enhancing Brassy Oak

I remember when I almost painted this table white. Heck, I almost painted my wooden kitchen cabinets white! I am so glad I didn’t. Warm natural woods are definitely making a comeback, and I am here for it!

I have always been a fan of natural earth tones and wood grain, but sometimes oak can look a little too brassy. So, my color palette really needed to not compete with the giant peach in the room. My table.

This table is solid oak, heavy and an almost-antique. I love the scuffed up character in the wood grain, but I just don’t looove the orange tint. However, I don’t like the way farmhouse chalk paint looks and I am too lazy to sand and re-stain. Therefore… the peach wins. Similar Table HERE.

Luckily, this ivory and grey rug immediately calmed down the brassy tones. It’s like purple shampoo for my dining room haha! I got the 8′ x 8′ size to fit my 45″ circular table. I love how it looks! (Personally not a fan of round rugs.)

Make a Small Room feel Bigger

This step was huge for me! (no pun intended) I wanted this small space to become a place to work and shoot photos/flat lays for my blog. It has to feel airy and clean!

Window Treatments

My new window treatments made all the difference. I opted for curtains a foot smaller than my room’s height. (9′ room, so 8′ curtains.)

I purchased these SUPER affordable linen curtains from Amazon and I am obsessed! I probably ordered and returned 7 different types of cheap and expensive curtains. I really wanted the perfect soft white color with an airy linen look. Found them!

I also love the way the Matte Black curtain rod pops against the creamy grey and soft white! These curtain rings from Amazon make the room feel more modern and relaxed. I ordered the 1.77″ size.

Dining Chairs

Goodbye clunky upholstered oak chairs…hello Ghost Chairs!

This change was probably the most spontaneous and fun! I absolutely love how bright and open they make the room feel. They are very sturdy and surprisingly comfortable! I can sit at this spot for hours while working on my blog 🙂

I was nervous that my husband would hate them… but he LOVES how they look and feel. He is 6’2 and 220lbs and he can also sit in these chairs for hours while he works on school work. Yes, that is plastic wrap on one of the chair legs. I still have yet to take it off… #oneday

I purchased my Ghost Chairs from walmart.com, but the exact same chairs are sold on Amazon too! —> Amazon Ghost Chairs

Modern Boho Chic Decor

If I would describe my decor style it would be “modern boho but still a little chic”. I love neutrals with faux plants and matte black accents! However, I am not quite ready to give up my feminine chic decor. I love how glam accents (such as this chandelier) stand out with mid-century boho neutrals!

Exact Decor in Photo:

So far, I am trying to keep the room feeling open, clean and airy. I love the pops of matte black and vibrant green tones. This room would feel empty without this faux fiddle tree ! I almost purchased one twice the price, but this one looks waaay more real. It is gorgeous!

The plant stand and planter pot are both from Amazon.

Honorable mention: this blanket and mug. Sometimes it’s the little luxuries that make you feel like you have your sh*t together haha!

This room is not quite finished. I plan on adding some sort of a gallery wall with thin black frames. Likewise, I ordered this affordable standing mirror to go in the opposite corner next to the sliding glass door.
