Whether it’s a spacious primary bathroom or a hallway powder room, it’s easier (and less
expensive) than you might think to give your bath a whole new look! I’m excited to share my
recent chat with Wayfair and share our tips for transforming your boring bathroom into the spa-
like oasis of your dreams – with just a few simple upgrades!
EASY BATHROOM UPGRADES: Q&A with Lori of Guitar and Lace
Wayfair: If you could only upgrade one area of your bathroom to make the biggest impact, what
would you choose, and why?
Lori: If I could only upgrade one thing in my bathroom, I’d choose the shower. Tiled showers can really make a statement and elevate the entire bathroom. I love the look of vintage subway tiles in an olive or muted emerald green with gold hardware. This olive green tile would be stunning with a gold or brass shower head fixture!
Wayfair: Are there any must-have décor pieces, accessories or fixtures in your bathroom that
enhance the spa-like atmosphere?
Lori: I love functional yet aesthetic pieces like this detachable shower head in a beautiful champagne gold finish. Not only does the color look stunning with most decor choices, but the detachable shower head is so practical.
Likewise, replacing a traditional bathroom mat with a vintage inspired statement area rug/runner really elevates the space. We currently have this vintage inspired rug in our guest bathroom. It feels warm enough under our feet as any traditional bathroom rug would, but it makes such an impact on the vibe of the bathroom!
Wayfair: From a design perspective, what are your favorite colors, textures or materials to
incorporate in your bath space?
Lori: I will always love the look of classic neutrals, however I personally need a bit of color in my life! I have always been drawn to shades of green. I love the look of deep olive green with wood tones, gold hardware and amber accent colors. Green just feels so luxurious, peaceful and eclectic all at once.
Texture is also so important to me when making a space feel luxe, but it can be tricky with bathrooms needing to be moisture resistant. I like to add textured in accent pieces such as a wicker basket to hold towels. These wicker baskets are the perfect amount of texture!
Lastly, quality material is essential in a bathroom, however I also love affordability and aesthetics! I love the look of a classic wooden vanity. This bathroom vanity comes in a beautiful natural oak finish that would easily fit with any decor scheme. Especially deep green walls!
SIMPLE UPGRADES, BIG IMPACT
Tip #1: Swap out builder-grade hardware for sleek new finishes.
For minimal work and maximum impact, a little bit of luxe goes a long way with polished new
hardware – and all you need is a screwdriver! Swap out dated cabinet and drawer pulls,
bathroom sink faucets and towel bars throughout your space. We recommend matching finishes
across the board for a consistent look.
Tip #2: Make accessories count.
It’s easy for bathrooms to feel cluttered with everyday cosmetics and grooming products strewn
across the counter. Incorporate stylish yet useful storage accessories like woven baskets, glass
jars, trays and simple shelving to keep your space feeling clean and serene.
Tip #3: Show your style with tile.
While this upgrade is a bit more time intensive, laying down fresh floor or wall tile is certain to
create a huge visual impact! For a high-end, uniform look, extend tile past the shower walls to
create a backsplash around your mirror and vanity. Or, create a clean, modern look by laying
classic subway tile in a herringbone or basket weave pattern.
Tip #4: Replace your vanity.
You can quickly change the vibe of your entire bathroom with this one piece! With all the styles
and designs available, you can easily find the one that matches your dream aesthetic. To
enhance the spa-like atmosphere, match the vanity base color with other pieces in the room for
a breezy, cohesive look. Try cool, soothing tones like soft green or calming blue, or create a
clean look with crisp white.
