7 Ways to Refresh your Summer Bedroom Decor

7 Ways to Refresh your Summer Bedroom Decor

Happy Summertime! There is something about summer that makes me want to restart with a fresh clean slate at home. I blame 10 years in the education world for summer feeling like the true start of a new year. Anyone else?!

Every summer, we kick off the season with one big house refresh. This includes donating all the clothes we did not wear all year, purging random garage stuff we forgot we even owned and refreshing all of the rooms in our house.

My favorite part of the home to refresh is all of the bedrooms! Out with all the velvet curtains and thick duvets and in with all the cotton and linen fabrics. Add in a thorough vacuuming session, natural eucalyptus blend mopping and finish with the air purifier and voila! Pure joy.

Today I am sharing easy ways to refresh your summer bedroom decor!

7 Ways to Refresh your Summer Bedroom Decor

Add Sheer White Curtains – Summer Bedroom Decor

get the neutral bedroom look: 1. cream duvet cover 100% cotton – 2. sheer white curtains – 3. white curtain rod – 4. neutral throw blanket – 5. end of bed bench – 6. table lamp

Summertime always gives the most beautiful natural lighting to our homes! Embrace the long sunny days and the beauty of golden hour with sheer white curtains.

These sheer white curtains mixed with the minimalist color palette makes this airy summer bedroom look so fresh and ethereal!

If you live in a hot climate like I do, pair these sheer white curtains with a blackout pull down shade. As much as I love the golden lighting, I also like my energy bill to not be as extra as my decor hehe.

Add Fresh Flowers – Summer Bedroom Decor

get the look: 1. faux white cosmos flowers – 2. round bedside table – 3. sheer white curtains – 4. soft plush throw blanket – 5. slender floor lamp – 6. blue paint color resembles “smoky azurite” by sherwin williams

Removing all the clutter from your nightstands and dressers and replacing with a simple vase of flowers is like a reward.

As a lover of home decor AND gardening my two worlds collide every spring and summer! I happen to grow cosmos and zinnias in my yard every summer, just to have fresh flowers for my home.

However, there are so many faux flowers out there that look just as good! These silk white cosmos from Amazon are beautiful!

Use Relaxed Textures – Summer Bedroom Decor

get the look: 1. jute area rug – 2. white washed cotton duvet cover – 3. tassel throw blanket – 4. faux umbrella tree – 5. sheer white curtains (combine 2-3 panels for this fuller look)

If you are shopping for new decor pieces to make your bedroom feel new and fresh for summer, consider adding more texture! A jute rug is not only durable, but it looks stunning.

Change out your duvet cover for a relaxed 100% cotton or cotton linen blend. The more wrinkled, the better in my opinion!

Lastly, switch out your curtains for a sheer white linen or gauze fabric.

Add Live Plants – Summer Bedroom Refresh

get the look: 1. live golden pothos plant – 2. live prayer plant – 3. live fiddle leaf fig tree – 4. sheer natural curtains – 5. beige comforter – 6. upholstered bed frame

Take advantage of all the extra sunshine in your bedroom by adding some indoor plants! Not only does greenery look beautiful and fresh, but it will clean the air surrounding your bed.

My personal favorite indoor plants are orchids, spider plants and prayer plants.

Oversized Whimsical Bedding – Summer Bedroom Decor

get the look: 1. oversized skirt bedspread – 2. cream throw blanket – 3. textured plush area rug – 4. sheer white curtains – 5. large framed art – 6. wall color is close to Geddy Gray by Benjamin Moore

How dreamy is this moody bedroom?! Moody bedroom wall colors tend to feel more ready for fall and winter. However, adding a bit of bright ethereal elements can change the entire space to a fresh summer bedroom.

Put away your heavy duvets for the summer and add a lightweight oversized skirt bedspread! Likewise, let in the light with ethereal sheer white curtains.

Start a Cleaning Routine – Summer Bedroom Refresh

get the look: 1. wooden bed frame – 2. wooden nightstands – 3. brass table lamp – 4. pleated sheer curtains – 5. ivory vintage pattern area rug – 6. wall color is close to Cape Hatteras Sand by Benjamin Moore

Nothing will make your bedroom feel more refreshed than a good old fashioned purge! Get rid of all the random decor you don’t really love. If you have the space, move all storage items from under your bed elsewhere. Clear your closets, organize your drawers and instantly feel more at ease!

When I am in a good tidy up/cleaning routine, I just feel better all around! Get in a routine of cleaning your linens once a week, making your bed every morning and doing a quick vacuum every 1-2 days. Bonus: run an air purifier!

Add an Accent Wall – Summer Bedroom Decor

bedroom accent wall. bedroom wall trim. blue bedroom wall color.
get the look: 1. jute area rug – 2. upholstered tufted bedframe – 3. mid-century nightstands – 4. white duvet cover 100% cotton – 5. taupe throw blanket – 4. wall color is close to Van Courtland Blue by Benjamin Moore

Okay, not everyone loves to paint, but an accent wall could be fun! If you’ve been wanting to try a new wall color without committing to all 4 walls, an accent wall is perfect.

Choose a calming blue or a clean & fresh muted green paint color. If you end up hating it, you can just paint it back. It’s just one wall, right?!

If painting is not in the cards for you, try changing up the wall behind your bed. Opt for a blank slate without art above the bed. Or, try a DIY wall trim project!
