Rose Garden Lookbook: all of my beautiful Pink Roses!
Pink roses are slowly, but surely, taking over my garden! I began my rose gardening journey as a lover of orange and apricot colored roses, but that quickly changed once I began growing PINK. Side note, pink roses AND orange roses look so lovely when grown together.
I have found that Pink Roses will either be some of the most delicate and high maintenance roses in my garden (not as bad as purple roses) or they will be incredibly heat tolerant! However, the stunning colors are worth all the extra work in my opinion!

Rose Garden Lookbook: all of my Pretty Pink Roses!
Pink Roses often represent feelings of gratitude, grace and femininity. As a girly-girl mother of an adventurous boy toddler (and another boy on the way), I am going to need all the pink roses I can get hehe. It’s all about balance 😉
Today I am sharing all of the Pink Roses that I grow in my zone 9B Phoenix, Arizona Rose garden!
“California Dreamin” – Pink Roses
If Malibu Barbie were a rose, she’d be the “California Dreamin” Rose. This rose was high up on my wish list when I was first planning my garden! I ended up finding her in rose tree form at a local nursery (Berridge Nursery, if you live in Phoenix).
These blooms are some of the most stunning in my garden! They begin as a hot pink mixed with a bit of yellow and white and slowly fade to just pink and white as the bloom ages (see photo below this post’s title). Each bloom is over 5 inches across and the fragrance is pure candy. The shape begins as a perfect classic rose form and opens up to a more intricate ruffled rose shape.
California Dreamin is always one of the first roses to bloom for me every spring! The blooms do very well during our mild early spring weather. Once we reach the consistent 90 degree weather in May and June, the blooms tend to fade a bit quicker. They definitely aren’t the most fragile rose in my garden, but they aren’t as strong as some of my more heat tolerant roses.
For me, this rose tends to get a bit of powdery mildew every early spring during our late winter months here in Phoenix. Once the weather warms up early spring, it seems to go away on its own. Other than that, this rose looks healthy and vibrant with full green foliage year around!
California Dreamin Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: Large, perfectly shaped hot pink with a mix of white and yellow in the center.
- Growth Style: Hybrid tea rose, but I own a tree rose version.
- Height: up to 4 feet
- Width: up to 3 feet
- Fragrance: very strong candy like fragrance
- Growing Zones: 6-9
- Heat Tolerance: Does well until the temps hit the 90s in Phoenix
- Disease Tolerance: Mild powdery mildew during rainy months
Scent-sation – Peachy Pink Roses
To me, Scent-Sation is the perfect peachy pink rose. The rose plant itself is fast growing, multiple long lasting blooms per stem and the fragrance is heavenly! This rose was a last minute purchase, but has easily become one of my most reliable and favorite roses.
The Scent-sation Rose gives the most perfectly shaped blooms with a sunny center that fades to peachy pink outer petals. The petals are very sturdy and do not wilt despite sitting in the hot sun for days. The color does tend to fade to a very light pink after a few days in the full sun.
As stunning as these blooms are, the foliage is just as beautiful! The leaves are a deep green color and remain shiny and healthy all year for me in Phoenix.
I have had no issues with disease on this rose.
Scent-Sation Growth Habits:
- Blooms: Large peachy pink, picture perfect blooms
- Growth Style: hybrid tea, but multiple blooms per stem
- Height: up to 4 feet
- Width: up to 3 feet
- Fragrance: very strong sweet tea rose fragrance
- Growing Zones: 7-10
- Heat Tolerance: Very heat tolerant! Blooms last for days even in hot sun
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant for me!
Queen of Elegance – Pink Roses
The Queen of Elegance is certainly the most romantic and regal rose in my garden! This floribunda rose gives flushes of the most beautiful mauve-pink old fashioned roses all with a strong classic rose fragrance.
The blooms are a little on the delicate side (most cupped shaped blooms are). While these roses do very well during our mild spring weather, the blooms tend to fade and crisp up during our later spring months. I do have this rose in a spot that gets more afternoon sun than some of my other delicate roses, so I may end up moving her to a better spot next January!
This rose is very disease resistant and seems to be fast growing. I purchased and planted this rose last fall and she is already as tall as her 2-3 year old rose neighbors.
Queen of Elegance Growth Habits:
- Blooms: clusters of large, cupped mauve pink blooms
- Growth Style: Floribunda, multiple blooms per stem
- Height: up to 5 feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: strong classic rose scent
- Growing Zones: 5-9
- Heat Tolerance: does not love the heat or intense sun, but does well in mild spring weather
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant
Distant Drums – Mauve Pink Roses
The perfect rose does not exi…oh? Hello Distant Drums. If I could only grow one rose variety for the rest of my life, it would be Distant Drums. I LOVE this rose. She is stunning, unique, heat tolerant, fast growing, constantly blooming and brings me so much joy.
The blooms on this rose are medium large, fairytale shaped with the most beautiful coloring! During colder temps, the colors appear as a very saturated pink with a bronzy gold center. As the weather warms up, I get more of a lavender pink outder petal with a buttery golden center.
The fragrance is very a moderate honey rose scent that seems to attract the bees. I feel like this rose is constantly blooming! While the blooms obviously look their best during our spring and fall weather, it will actually still bloom during our summer months as well.
Lastly, this rose is very disease resistant. I have had no issues other than the expected aphids.
Distant Drums Growth Habits:
- Blooms: medium large ruffled blooms, mauve-pink with golden bronze center.
- Growth Style: beautiful floribunda shrub form! tons of blooms.
- Height: 4 feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: Moderate Honey Rose scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in our hot spring weather! bloom color fades a little, but remain sturdy
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant!
Zephirine Drouhin – hot pink climbing rose
I have had the highest of hopes for the rose and have been let down every year. I haven’t given up yet though! For me, this rose grows quickly, but it rarely blooms. In fact, I think this one cluster of five blooms is the most it has bloomed in it’s three years of life in my garden.
I purchased this rose as an “own-root” rose, so it is still pretty young. I actually just purchased a second “grafted” Zephirine Drouhin this spring and planted it as an experiment! We will see how it performs in comparison…
While I can’t give the best review, since I’ve barely seen a true full size bloom, I can say that the color is stunning! The blooms are a true hot pink and last for days even in our hot spring sun. The fragrance is also phenomenal! It is a very expensive smelling perfume rose that carries well in a breeze.
I know once this rose finally blooms to its potential, I am going to be obsessed with this rose. Zephirine Drouhin is typically known to be a super bloomer, so I am hoping she gets the show on the road soon!
This rose tends to get a bit of powdery mildew every spring, but sits in full sun which helps combat it.
Zephirine Drouhin Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: Medium sized hot pink blooms
- Growth Style: Climbing, thornless and multiple blooms per cane
- Height: over 10 feet
- Width: 6 feet
- Fragrance: Very fragrant, expensive perfume rose smell
- Growing Zones: 6-10
- Heat Tolerance: blooms remain sturdy even during our hot spring weather
- Disease Resistance: mine gets a bit of powdery mildew every year
The Impressionist – Pink-Orange Climbing Rose
The Impressionist rose is easily one of the most beautiful climbing roses to grow (imo). Easily within my top 5 favorite roses! This was actually my first (of many) purchases from HeirloomRoses.com and I believe the third rose I planted in my yard!
The blooms are a mixture of a mauve pink outer petal with an orange sunburst center. At first glance, these large ruffly blooms appear to be so delicate, but they are actually very sturdy! Thankfully, this climbing rose does well in my garden in Phoenix, Arizona. The blooms do not wilt in our hot spring sun and the fragrance is a moderate rose & honey type scent.
For me, this rose is very disease resistant which I have come to appreciate especially with climbing roses! (treating large climbing roses for powdery mildew is not fun). It has healthy looking foliage year around and is easy to train on a trellis.
The Impressionist rose is actually the child rose of Distant Drums and Graham Thomas (a ruffled yellow climbing rose). All I know is wherever I go in life, my yard will have an Impressionist climbing rose! It’s a non-negotiable hehe.
The Impressionist Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large cupped, peachy orange centers fading to outer orchid pink petals.
- Growth Style: Climbing, moderate growth speed and easy to train.
- Height: 11 feet
- Width: 8 feet
- Fragrance: Moderate Honey & Rose scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms do not wilt as fast as other old fashioned cupped garden rose blooms do
- Disease Resistance: very disease tolerant!
Sexy Rexy
If you need an abundantly pink rose, Sexy Rexy is it. Out of all my roses, Sexy Rexy always puts on the biggest show of blooms! During a bloom cycle, the entire rose plant is covered in clusters of frilly, long lasting bubblegum pink blooms. This alone makes me wish I had planted more!
The Sexy Rexy Rose does not get very tall, but grows to a decent full shrub with vibrant shiny foliage year around. This is another one of my roses that blooms even during the hottest parts of summer.
The blooms do not really have much of a fragrance, but the extreme amount of blooms make up for it! One cane will literally produce an entire bouquet of large ruffled pink roses. The blooms are very sturdy and last quite a bit on the plant and in a vase before dying.
Along with being very heat tolerant, the Sexy Rexy Rose is very disease resistant. As someone with tons of roses to care for (I chose this life), I appreciate how incredibly low maintenance this rose is!
Sexy Rexy Pink Roses Growth Habits:
- Blooms: medium large bubblegum pink ruffled blooms
- Growth Style: floribunda with tons of blooms clustered on each cane.
- Height: 3 feet
- Width: 3 feet
- Fragrance: barely there fresh scent
- Growing Zones: 6-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms can take the heat!
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant!
Queen Elizabeth – Pink Roses
Named after the beloved Queen herself, The Queen Elizabeth Rose is an infamous classic pink rose. In fact, it is one of the most purchased roses and typically easy to find at any nursery during rose season.
The blooms are probably the most perfectly shaped rose blooms I’ve ever seen! They begin as a pointed classic rose form and slowly open to a large cupped english rose shape. There isn’t much of a fragrance to these roses, but they are stunning when in bloom!
I will be honest, this rose is just okay for me. I think it would be stunning if mass planted as a hedge against a white fence. However, I just have one planted near a few other pink and purple roses. As perfect as her blooms are, I tend to be more drawn to my more fragrant and intricately colored roses.
My Queen Elizabeth rose does tend to get a little powdery mildew during our early spring. However, it seems to go away on its own once the spring weather warms up (that good ole dry heat).
Queen Elizabeth Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large true pink classic rose shaped blooms
- Growth Style: Grandiflora, tall and column like. A little leggy.
- Height: over 7 feet
- Width: 3 feet
- Fragrance: Barely there fresh scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms wilt after a few days of full sun
- Disease Resistance: Mine gets a little powdery mildew early spring
Eustacia Vye
Eustacia Vye is one of David Austin’s more recent pink roses. These english style roses are stunning once in bloom!
The old fashioned cupped blooms begin as a very light pink and fade to a warmer pink, almost sunburst center. They smell just as lovely as they look! I get mostly a strong citrus rose scent, and it’s so unique!
Sadly for me, this rose does not bloom often. It is in a planter pot where I can move it and so far, no location has been a winner. I do think it may just be young. Sometimes roses need a few years of strong root growth before they bloom to their potential.
This rose is definitely not very heat tolerant. The leaves remain healthy all year long, but any blooms will wilt within a day or two during our late spring weather. So far, it has only bloomed later on in the spring.
If you love this rose and live in a hot climate like I do, place her in a spot that receives early morning sun and shade from the afternoon through the evening. Our morning sun is enough for some of these more fragile roses!
Eustacia Vye Growth Habits:
- Blooms: medium large english style cupped blooms
- Growth Style: David Austin rose, shrub shaped
- Height: 4 feet
- Width: 3 feet
- Fragrance: Strong citrus rose scent
- Growing Zones: 4-11
- Heat Tolerance: foliage does well, but blooms tend to wilt after a day or two in our hot spring sun
- Disease Resistance: supposedly disease resistant, but mine got a little powdery mildew this year. nothing bad though
Pretty Lady – Fuschia Pink Roses
The “Pretty Lady Rose” is a part of The Downton Abbey rose collection. As the name describes, this rose is easily one of the “prettiest” roses I own. I would place her in my top 5! (I really need to commit to a list of favs, because I’ve lost track by now…)
The blooms on this rose are so unique to me! I would describe them as large ruffled puff ball roses. The color is a cool toned fuschia, but the outer parts of each petal have an icy light pink color to them. This makes the whole bloom look like it is icy or glowing. They are just so pretty!
The Pretty Lady Rose has a very strong fragrance! The scent is almost identical to the classic pink shampoo by Herbal Essence. I currently have this rose in a wooden planter next to our patio sectional so I can enjoy the fragrance!
Surprisingly, this rose does very well in our Phoenix spring heat! She tends to bloom later in the spring when our temperature highs are mostly 80s and 90s and she sits in the full afternoon sun. The foliage remains healthy all year long and I don’t ever see any signs of disease!
Pretty Lady Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large icy fuschia ruffled puff ball blooms
- Growth Style: Hybrid Tea Rose, but grows in a compact shrub form
- Height: 3 feet
- Width: 3 feet
- Fragrance: Strong tea rose fragrance, resembles Herbal Essence Shampoo
- Growing Zones:6-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms don’t seem to mind the hot sun
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant!
