Rose Garden Lookbook: all of my beautiful Orange Roses!
Orange roses will always be in my garden. Fun fact, I DIY’d my own wedding flowers and used a mix of orange roses for everything! They are easily one of my favorite rose colors.
From true vibrant orange to a more subtle peach shade, orange roses appear in the garden as if they are glowing. I have also found that most are incredibly heat tolerant!

Rose Garden Lookbook: all of my beautiful Orange Roses!
Orange roses represent joy, energy and success! I have found that most orange roses are pretty fragrant and incredibly heat tolerant. Filling my kitchen vase with bright orange and apricot roses feels as fresh as a morning glass of orange juice!
I will be sharing a series of all of the different colored roses that I grow in my garden. Today, I am sharing all of the shades of orange roses I grow.
Piñata – Neon Orange Climbing Rose
The Piñata climbing rose definitely stands out the most in my rose garden! Similar to it’s name, the blooms look like neon orange and vibrant red tissue paper flowers. It is such a unique rose!
What is most impressive is the amount of blooms per stem. Most climbing roses will produce 1-3 roses clustered on a stem, but the Piñata rose will bloom an entire bouquet of neon orange roses (that slowly fade to a vivid red). The image above is one sturdy cane that has an entire bouquet of blooms!
Likewise, these roses change colors throughout their bloom life. They begin as a bright orange color and slowly fade to a vivid fiery red and end as a faded salmon red color. The blooms do not have much of a fragrance, but the heavy amount of blooms definitely make up for it!
Moreover, the Piñata Rose is very heat tolerant and disease resistant. Other than a few aphids, I do not have to treat this rose for illness during the early spring (some of my other climbing roses get powdery mildew from all of our early spring rain).
Piñata Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: tons of large clusters of medium sized neon orange blooms, fades to a warm red
- Growth Style: Technically a climbing rose, but grows more like a huge shrub for me.
- Height: up to 9 feet
- Width: up to 6 feet
- Fragrance: Light, barely there fresh scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: Very! one of my non-stop blooming roses in Phoenix, Az!
- Disease Tolerance: very disease resistant!
Ring of Fire – Deep Red Orange Hybrid Tea Rose
The Ring of Fire rose was the first rose I planted in my Phoenix, Az garden! I had no idea what I was doing back then, but I chose the perfect rose to begin with. This rose is so healthy, heat tolerant, fragrant and stunning!
The giant fiery coral orange blooms literally glow in the sun! It’s almost as if you can see an aura around each bloom. Within each bloom is a yellow ring around the center. You can’t really see it unless you look down into the bloom, but it’s pretty cool!
For me, this rose is very fragrant and similar to the Arizona Rose. When I cut a few blooms to bring inside, you can smell the fruity rose fragrance for days!
Ring of Fire is very heat tolerant and the blooms last for days in our hot spring sun. However, I am most impressed by the overall presentation of this plant! Most hybrid tea roses tend to grow leggy, sparse and sometimes awkwardly. However, the Ring of Fire rose is more of a tall and full shrub filled with large vibrant leaves.
This is another rose that is very disease resistant for me! It is neighbors to Mister Lincoln, which always gets powdery mildew. Despite both roses being so close to one another, Forever Yours never gets sick. I also rarely see any aphids on this rose. I’m “Forever” grateful lol!
Ring of Fire Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: HUGE brilliant red-orange colored roses with a yellow-orange center
- Growth Style: Hybrid Tea, grows tall and full of large leaves
- Height: 6 feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: very strong fragrance, resembles Herbal Essence shampoo
- Growing Zones: 5-9
- Heat Tolerance: does well in Phoenix, blooms last long on the shrub & in a vase.
- Disease Resistance: very disease resistant for me!
Arizona – Orange Pink Grandiflora Rose
If you’ve ever seen a vibrant Arizona sunset, this rose will make perfect sense to you. The Arizona Rose is one of my most interesting blooms to look at!
From afar, you will see large coral orange blooms that glow vividly in the sun. However, up close you can see all the “brushstrokes” and variation in color. The Arizona Rose is underrated imo! SO gorgeous.
Of course, this rose is heat tolerant! (how disappointing would it be to not be able to grow the Arizona rose in Arizona haha). In fact, these blooms are some of my most sturdy and faithful! My Arizona rose sits in full sun from 7am-4pm and the blooms look glorious for days. They do fade after a few days of intense sun, but the bloom hold it shape pretty much until I intervene with deadheading.
The fragrance is heavenly and reminds me of the classic Herbal Essences shampoo! For me, the Arizona rose is very disease resistant and has the largest most vibrant leaves year around.
Arizona Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large, perfectly rose shaped orange, coral and pink brushed blooms
- Growth Style: Grandiflora, grows tall with 1-2 blooms per stem.
- Height: 5+ feet
- Width: 3 feet
- Fragrance: Very strong fruity rose scent.
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: One of my best performers in Phoenix, Az. Blooms are very sturdy and last for days (on the plant & in a vase)
- Disease Tolerance: very disease tolerant!
Impressionist – Orange Pink Climbing Rose
The Impressionist rose is easily one of the most beautiful climbing roses to grow (imo). Easily within my top 5 favorite roses!
At first glance, these large ruffly blooms appear to be so delicate, but they are actually very sturdy! Thankfully, this climbing rose does well in my garden in Phoenix, Arizona. The blooms do not wilt in our hot spring sun and the fragrance is a moderate rose & honey type scent.
For me, this rose is very disease resistant which I have come to appreciate especially with climbing roses! (treating large climbing roses for powdery mildew is not fun). It has healthy looking foliage year around and is easy to train on a trellis.
All I know is wherever I go in life, my yard will have an Impressionist climbing rose! It’s a non-negotiable hehe.
I purchased my Impressionist Climbing Rose from Heirloom Roses. I believe it is exclusive to their website!
The Impressionist Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large cupped, peachy orange centers fading to outer orchid pink petals.
- Growth Style: Climbing, moderate growth speed and easy to train.
- Height: 11 feet
- Width: 8 feet
- Fragrance: Moderate Honey & Rose scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms do not wilt as fast as other old fashioned cupped garden rose blooms do
- Disease Resistance: very disease tolerant!
South Africa Rose – Golden Orange Roses
The South Africa Rose is known for it’s extreme heat tolerance, gorgeous amber colored petals and constant healthy appearance. I have this rose in the sunniest part of my yard, and she is always thriving!
This rose starts out as a rich, amber-orange color. As the blooms mature, they fade to more of a yellowish apricot color. Then again, my South Africa rose sits in full unwavering desert sun from sunrise to sunset which definitely contributes to the color fading. However, it’s even more impressive to me that the petals do not wilt or crisp as most roses do in full hot sun.
Out of all of my roses, the South Africa rose is easily my most low maintenance, heat tolerant and sturdy blooming rose. These blooms last for over a week on the shrub as well as in a vase! I have not picked up much of a fragrance from my South Africa Rose, but it is also under two years old.
South Africa Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: Large ruffled amber yellow/orange petals
- Growth Style: Grandiflora, multiple blooms per stem
- Height: 5 feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: Supposedly very fragrant, but mine has a very moderate rose scent
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: a total beast of a rose. Does not wilt in full desert sun. Blooms last for over a week for me. No wilting or fading.
- Disease Resistance: very healthy rose!
Lady of Shalott – Peachy Orange Roses
The Lady of Shalott rose is one of the most beloved roses in the David Austin Rose collection. Without knowing it’s popularity, I happened to choose this rose as my first David Austin rose simply for the color and bloom shape. She is stunning!
I currently grow my Lady of Shalott Rose on my patio in this wooden whiskey barrel from Lowes. Wooden planters work wonderfully in hot climates, since they do not get as hot as clay pots. Since this rose is meant to grow as a 5×4 shrub, or even a short climber, I use this Obelisk Trellis from amazon to help train the cains as a small climber.
I purchased my Lady of Shalott Rose from Heirloom Roses about two years ago. It has grown quite a bit, but the blooms are seldom and usually during late spring for me. I am not sure if this is due to it being a young rose or if this particular rose only blooms a few times a year. Regardless, the blooms are stunning!
This rose is pretty low maintenance. I have never had any problems with diseases or aphids luckily! It grows well in my hot Phoenix, Az garden however the petals do soften and wilt after a few days of full sun.
Lady of Shalott Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large, ruffled apricot orange blooms
- Growth Style: large shrub, I use this Obelisk Trellis from amazon to train the canes
- Height: 5+ feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: very fragrant! smells fruity to me
- Growing Zones: 4-11
- Heat Tolerance: does well in Phoenix, Az! Blooms do wilt and fade after a few days of intense sun.
- Disease Tolerance: very disease tolerant! David Austin Roses are known for this.
Strike it Rich – Orange Roses
The Strike it Rich Rose is a vibrant, orangy yellow grandiflora rose. Like most grandiflora roses, Strike it Rich will grow pretty tall with multiple large blooms per stem.
I purchased this rose from Heirloom Roses over a year ago, so it is still very young. However, there have been multiple bloom cycles and each bloom seems to get larger and more fragrant with time! The blooms are a beautiful orange color with a hint of pink and yellow.
This is another disease resistant and heat tolerant orange rose! I have this rose planted in a location that receives full intense sun from sunrise to sunset, and she thrives!
Strike it Rich Rose Growth Habits:
- Blooms: large, mostly orange blooms with touches of pink, apricot and yellow
- Growth Style: Grandiflora, will get pretty tall and has multiple blooms per stem
- Height: 5+ feet
- Width: 4 feet
- Fragrance: I have gotten a moderate nice spicy/fruity fragrance. It’s supposed to be a very fragrant rose in time!
- Growing Zones: 5-10
- Heat Tolerance: does very well in Phoenix, Az! Leaves always look healthy and blooms do not wilt or fade in full sun.
- Disease Resistance: Very disease resistant
