How to make Clear App Icons on iPhone – with ios 26
Five years ago, ios14 changed the look of our iPhone homescreens forever with the addition of the Shortcut App and ability to change app icons. Remember that awful long process?!
Every few iPhone updates, the Shortcut App would become more and more user friendly, but it was still a bit of a process. Now with the recent ios updates we can all officially change the color of our iPhone app icons by a simple few buttons!
How to make Clear App Icons on your iPhone
Apple finally gave the people what they want! A quick and easy way to change the color of our App Icons. This setting can be done on original app icons as well as the aesthetic app icons you may have previously added via the Shortcut App.
- From your home screen, long press down until all of your app icons jiggle
- Top left corner, press “edit”
- press, “customize”
- “Tinted” will change the color of all your app icons to any color of your choice.
- “Clear” will change your app icons to a transparent glass like appearance.
You can switch from light and dark in both “tinted” and “clear” app icon mode.
This quick app icon customization setting will only change the appearance of whatever app icon/shortcut app icon is on your home screen, so if you are wanting to add new customized app icons (I have tons of free ones on my website) then you will be using the Shortcut App process again.
Help! My “clear app icons” do not look transparent?!
If you did all of the steps above, but your “clear glass” app icons are looking solid/opaque, you may need to fix the transparency and/or contrast setting in your phone.
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > turn “Reduce Transparency” OFF
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > turn “Increase Contrast” OFF

I am obsessed with the new clear glass like app icon setting! You will just have to see for yourself, but I love how the apps truly look like glass as you swipe through your screen.
